Infrared sauna “should I even do this?”
Are you thinking about bringing an infrared sauna into your home but not sure if it is the right move? You are not alone. For many people, a home sauna sits somewhere between “that would be amazing” and “am I being unrealistic?”. When I bought my first sauna it was the most out-there thing I'd ever bought, no-one I knew had one!
Here are five simple checks to help you decide whether an infrared sauna makes sense for your home and your season of life.
A home sauna is most worthwhile if you can see it fitting into real routines, not just as a someday treat.
Ask yourself:
Can I imagine using it a few times per week, even on an ordinary Tuesday?
Would it help me unwind, loosen up tight muscles, or sleep better?
Is this something I have wanted for a while, or just a passing idea?
If it feels like it would become a small, steady ritual rather than a shiny unused gadget, that is a good sign.
Infrared saunas come in compact sizes, but they still need a proper home, and electrical access.
Consider:
A spare corner of a bedroom, wellness room, or large bathroom
Enough room to open the door easily and step in without squeezing
A level floor that can safely hold the weight of the unit and occupants
Take real measurements. A sauna that technically fits but makes the room feel cramped will be less enjoyable over time.
Some smaller infrared saunas plug into a standard household outlet. Others need a dedicated circuit or a different voltage. DO NOT neglect this step, or on delivery day you may be crying and calling an electrician. Suddenly THIS CAN GET EXPENSIVE depending on SO MANY factors related to your home and electrical panel. Don't get caught out later.
Before you buy:
Check the electrical requirements on the product page
Look at where outlets are in the room you have in mind
For anything beyond a simple standard plug, plan to consult a licensed electrician
Knowing what your home can support avoids frustration and surprises later.
Infrared saunas are gentler than very hot traditional saunas, but they still create a warm, enclosed space.
Think about:
Do you generally enjoy gentle warmth, or do you overheat quickly?
Do you have a health condition that affects how you tolerate heat?
Do you like the idea of quiet time with no phone, no TV, no multitasking?
If warm, quiet time sounds like relief rather than discomfort, that points toward a yes. If you are unsure because of health questions, talk with your doctor first. You MIGHT need to do some work on your body's ability to detox before the sauna can easily do its job.
Many of Serene Home Living’s customers are planning to stay in their homes for the long term or are supporting a partner or parent who is.
Ask yourself:
Am I likely to stay in this home for several years?
Does this sauna make the home more supportive of how I want to live as I get older?
Will this still feel useful and sensible in three to five years?
If the answer is yes, a carefully chosen sauna can be a meaningful investment in comfort and routine, not just a luxury.
If you answered mostly yes to these checks, an infrared sauna could be a very good fit. The next step is choosing the right size, style, and electrical setup for your specific home.
